At the suggestion of an Apple Care person, I started using MacClenase in 2010, and loved it since the lastest version, 5.1.2.____Yes, I have contacted their tech dept. but little help. In my `backup’ folder, I had the best version, 3.3.3. and having down an A-B test, 3.3.3. does a better job the the later versions. Using El Capitan, with Firefox, ___having `unchecked’ the correct boxes, 5.1.2. Always erases the `favicons’!!! FYI: Those are the colored `flags’ next to your bookmarks. ( It also happens with Safari too). After contacting Kongio tech, and NO answer or reply, I will continue using 3.3.3. which I paid for in 2012, Indeed, it is 4 years older, but still works and dependable_____Koingo claims they only have one person answering emails, et al, ? Yet they TAKE our money in fast! I cannot give this version any star, not even 1/2___or .5. Just pathetic.
My experience with MacCleanse has been very positive. Unlike other apps of this category I have not had conflicts with other installed applications. The cost is reasonable without annual fees.
I’m on the seventh public beta of Sierra OS X and this app is still not compatible. Come on guys. Get on the ball.
Getting an error saying a Unix command “/usr/bin/srm” is missing
The UNIX command /usr/bin/srm is missing! error message when you try to open app in Sierra. Apparently Apple has removed srm from Sierra. Now MacCleanse will not open in OS Sierra! I have had a ticket open with Koingo for several days with no response… still waiting.
This application is not compatible with Sierra. When you launch it you get a unix command line error message. After you select ok the software terminates. I have contacted tech support and they offered no help. They say they are working on the problem, but after a week, no progress has been made. They have not replied to inquires on the status of the patch to fix this problem. I would not buy this application because the tech support is weak and it does not work with Sierra.
I’m so pleased to see that the app fixed its issues with the latest version of Mac OS Sierra! It’s good to see that compaies actually listen to their customers and follow through with their promises! Great customer service knowing that the company actually cares about their custorms and not just making money, especially since it was an expensive app; but at least I know its worth it since I can use it again! However there is one downside to the app; the problem I am facing is that the app finds issues on my computer, but it ends up skipping some files during the cleaning process because it needs admin approval. The issue is that the settings does not let me change the permission settings, it defults to skip and it’s grayed out so I can’t even change the setting. This means a lot of files that need removing or cleaning ends up not getting touched, which defeats the purpose of having an app that’s supposed to clean your computer, making it feel like I’ve wasted of $20.
Yes, this will clean up your temporary files and so on, but, apparently, it considered my iBank info as something that needed to be purged. All my accounts and budgets are gone. I would have never even thought to make sure something like this would not happen. I am horrified. This apps interface gives no indication it will delete such important data when "cleansing."
The old version was quick, intuitive, and effective. The new version “runs” (if you can call it that) so slowly that it can take hours and hours to scan. Want to find and delete duplicate files? Better pack a lunch and a good book (something the length of “War and Peace” should suffice). Want to delete unneeded language packs or unused files? Grab a Snickers, because you won’t be going anywhere for awhile. I’ve been patient, because the older version with the white interface was a superior product and I figured the developers would quickly fix the obvious bugs and enormous lag time. That hasn’t happened, and I am getting very close to fed up. Either the product is fixed within the next couple updates, or I am deleting it and activitely searching for a competitor. Sorry, but utility products kind of need to actually work in order to be useful (I know, I know—I’m demanding that way).
This program was easy to use and fast it has kept my Macbook Pro runing smoothly.
Good news: some parts of this SW work fine, such as deleting unneeded cache files — particularly useful on the MacBook Air with a small drive. Bad news: this software can also force you to rebuild your Mac form scatch! I encountered the latter when MacClease stripped needed content from key programs on OSX (Preview, App Store, etc.). It turns out this is a well known problem when you seatch the web (search for missing nib files). Sadly, the only recourse is to rebuild your Mac from scratch. A task that took me well over 10 hours. It’s too bad because it would be nice to have software that did what MacCleanse claims: reclaim disk space. But if you use any of the more sophisticated features, the consequence is that you may be have to rebuild your system from scratch. :(
This update caused the program to no longer work. It shows what I can delete and when I then try to delete items, it hangs up, not deleting a thing. I tried rebooting my computer and retrying but got the same results. Dont bother with this.
I’ve been using this app for about a year now (since I’ve been running low on internal disk space). I’ve only used the default settings for scanning and deleting and have never had a problem. Simple to use, good results, no problems - my kind of software.
This program is great. Its easy and gets the job done.
I would give it 5 stars, but I don’t give anything 5 stars… it works great. Smooth, easy to use, efficient. Get it!
I’m not sure what happened, but MacCleanse hijacked my computer and was warning me every time I went to empty the trash, or any time the trash got beyond a certain size. I did not select this and it only started with the recent update. Also, every time it did this…crashed my computer. Deleted it. Freed up 18.1 MB.
i’ve purchased this app becuase it’s useful when it comes to clean my mac, unfortunately, it’s a scam in one way or another! i don’t mean the app itself but the awful support, if you want to buy this app keep in mind the following: 1- rare updates or no updates at all. 2- you’ll see updated versions on and on (on the developer website only!!!). 3- they claim that submitting updates to the appstore takes long time (so...) they advise you to convert your license (appstore license) to retail license (off-appstore license) then delete the appstore version and download the website version!!! which is not verified by apple appstore. 4- the most shocking thing, i’ve bought the app recently version 4.1.7, and they have version 5.0 on the website, and found that i have to pay an upgrade fee to get the next version of the app that i bought!!!, we are talking in weeks/months not years!!! if you trust unverified apps, if you don’t care when no updates available for you even if there is one or two updates on the developer website!, or ready to be fooled to pay extra money to get the very next update to the app the you just bought (if this is not extortion then what extortion could be?!), and finally if you are happy with such support ONLY then you can buy it.
I was a recipient of MacCleans, via the MacUpdate fiasco. Koingo, stepped up to the plate and offered all of us licenses in the end. I haven’t used the product, amazingly, but I am not specifically reviewing the product, but the integrity of the company. I have CleanMyMac, which is also good, and I use that one. I want MacCleans, from the App Store, for one very specific reason. I belive it will do it’s job. I need a product, I can install on demand, and remove, without having to worry about licensing and finding my installer. For me, it’s for jobs to trim the fat and remove, quickly. I appreciate that they have it on the Mac App Store. It does not “have” to be the latest version, but something which needs to work with OS X 6+ and not just Mavericks or Yosemite.
It does what it says it does, I just wish that they would release version 5 on here for upgrade instead of having to buy it again from their website. Other than that, its good.
